  • little help on my project...

I have a 90 GP with a 3.1 and a auto, I have been collescting parts for a 5 speed swap and slowly assembling a 2.8/3X00 hybrid turbo for it. Well the tranny exploded so now I'm forced to do the swap now but I'm still missing some turbo stuff so for now I'm just going to throw in the motor NA and turbo it later.

    Few questions:
What headgasket is best to use 3400 or 2.8/3.1?
    and
I'm running a 2.8 with 2000+ 3400 heads, LIM, UIM, will my stock 3.1 ECM run this at all?
I know i cant use the 3x00 injectors cause they will run it to rich, so if i put the 3.1 injectors in it will it work?
If not what can i do to get it running properly without a tune. I plan to get a tune once my turbo stuff comes in, then it will be worth it. But for now I just need it to run so I can get around for a few weeks.

I know being a 2.8 it needs less fuel but with the 3x00 top end it will flow more so I'm hoping 3.1 ecm will be almost a half a$$ happy medium and it might work, lol

I know j body guys have goten there hybrids to work fine with a stock tune, if thats the case should I grab some 2.8 injectors and the ECM from a 2.8 car?
    thanks

haha yeah, Ive never heard of vineland before...I'm around that area a lot actually, i wish I lived aroudn that area thats were all the drifting in ontario takes place around the niagra area and in toronto, but there is the odd one in shannonville so Im actually in the middle of it all, but for 90% of the events its a 2-3 hour drive to get to your area... not to bad tho.

anyways, nice to see another "Ontarian" as you put it around, lol

The stock ECM and injectors will "run it" but not optimally or really safely. Just drive it very easy until the fuel trims adjust but even then you'll be lean in certain areas and rich in others until you can tune.

            OBD1 isn't that smart...

It'll run with the 3.1 injectors and a stock tune but it will be lean in the upper RPM's so don't go out and abuse it. It might have a hard time idling as well, that'll sort itself out over time though.

ok thanks guys, I have an A/F gauge so I'll be able to see were my cut off point is. I heard of a lot of guys leaning out after 3500-4000rpm

also can anyone tell me how to tell the diffrence between pre2000 3400 injectors and the 2000+ multech2 injectors?

also what are the flow rates of each of them? i figure 3400 injectors shoudl be able to run a turbo 2.8, right?

OBD-I use fuel trim, bank learn, most are injection batch fire.

OBD-I does not use PIDs. However the OBD-I system can change and modify a/f mixture by changing the interger on it own. Since most only have one o2 sensor we can use use one bank learn "long term"
