Some of you know i've had a Lumina... older one i scored for 350 bucks. It's sold now... 1800 certified and e-tested. new brake lines, fuel lines, tires, pads, and some spark plugs... liked the car, 3.1 was strong, but ugly as a beat up inuit woman...
    My malibu, gone... sold.
The Monte Carlo I tricked myself into thinking would be good (1997 small port 3100), gone...was a tank, and slow... piece of shit...but still made me some money.

Now Im temporarily driving a 99 Dogde Caravan. Soccerdad styles. I'm wating for a 2002 Chev Malibu to be purchased from the Toronto auto auction. Now I have the damn 3400 manifolds, injectors, and rail, with EGR.. TB, CTS... that i spent 300 on and it's useless to me because the 2000+ stuff is probably better than the 1997 3.4 stuff.
Well... having a 2000+ 3100 changes my game plan. It looks like everything you could do to the motor beyond intake and exhaust is EXPENS..

Yeah 2000+ and some 1999's had big port stuff already. So not much else for bolt ons other than the S&S headers, CAI if that's your thing, and exhaust. Other wise you gotta go internal like cam regrind, port and polish, 3400 swap, 3500 swap, 3400/3500 hybrid, etc.

EDIT: Hey well you can still put on the 3400 TB, as the 3100 is 52 still, and the 3500 is 56mm. (you can swap the linkage shafts between the two if you need to) I'm not sure if you have to open up the upper intake to match, I would imagine you wouldn't on the newer ones but I don't know for sure. And look at it this way, most of the modifying has been done already LOL. Do the 2000+ weigh anymore than the late 90's ones?

i dont think the weight is different... im not going leather and sunroof or anything too fancy. I want to keep my insurance costs down for another year... then i look into an 04 to 07 malibu if I like those..

as far as the TB, im waiting a little bit to get my 62mm off WOT... those things look awsome, and i like the responce of a larger TB.
I just hope my boss doesnt bring back something with scratches... i want low k's, like no more than 60k miles... i WAS looking into 97 to 99's, but seriously, i might as well spend the extra money and get something that is essentially already modified.. if that makes any sence... problem is i wont be able to keep my hands out of the engine bay.
i cant wait to see what i get..F&%K!!!!
