  • 3.1 question

I have a low mileage(30k) 3.1 from a 1993 Lumina. I also have a 1998 Skylark 3.1 with a broken camshaft. Can I put the '93 engine in the '98 Buick? I am more than willing to make modifications if this is remotely possible. I only have the '93 engine, no computer or harness.
    Thanks for any info.

No, as the 93 engine does not have all the sensors that the 98 PCM is looking for. You would also be looking at a decrease in power of around 20hp. Its always easier to put a newer engine in an old car, but its near impossible (and depending on the state, illegal) to put an older engine in a newer car.

You could build a "hybrid" by putting the whole top end from the '98 engine onto the 93block and bolting that in, you'll have a check engine light because the 93 engine does not have a camshaft sensor or the 24x trigger on the crank pully.

you'd probably have to order custom length pushrods as well..

I think it would be easier just to drop a few hundred bucks and pick up another 3100 from a junk yard and drop that in.. it would run alot better and save all kinds of time.
