I know I have exaust issues and it sounds like a truck on a diet, however anyway my concern is since I never had a sound like this come from any of my w-body vehicles at WOT.
When cold and I take off home I throttle it on my way home and in first is starts to sound as if it is backfiring at close to high range wot and hesitates some, it shifts into 2nd and the backfire sound more like knock and hesitates worse. I do have a bad gasket at the collector and a bad coupling joint after the OEM down pipe lets just say that it flows enough exhaust here that plugging the tail pipe does nothing.
No codes. Parts are on the way to seal up the exhaust ( new pipe and flange gaskets, and collector gasket), but my concern is that I had other cars that just had a muffler no cat and using a ultra flow dynomax with no issues like this. I have a feeling in my gut that tells that a rod is about to slip.
