  • Engine block identification

I recently bought a bunch of rebuilt engines at an auction. Most I have been able to identify with the exception of a few, one being a 2.8 liter V6. To me it appears to be around an 87 rear wheel drive but I'm unable to be certian. The block number is 395M, heads are 877 and the crank is an 817. The heads and crank are common on front wheel drive setups but the block looks to be rear wheel drive. If anyone knows of a website that has these specs I would appreciate it. If they are here I've been unalbe to locate them.
    Thanks in advance

What side is that starter on? That will tell you right there.

The starter has the staggared bolt pattern on the passenger side. Which I'm pretty sure means it's a rear wheel drive, but it doesn't confirm the years that it would fit.

981 has been the crank since the 3.1 debuted, not sure of the 2.8 crank number, though. (or what one was the small/larger journals).

A RWD block will fit every RWD application from Chevy or Jeep. It will not fit Isuzu applications.
