  • Weight Reduction

I'm looking to do some major weight reduction to my 94 z24. I know hoods and trunk lids are a easy find, but what about body panels, or the whole body? My father in law said he used to have a magazine that sold complete fiber glass body kits for cavaliers. Does anyone know what magazine this is, or of any place or website I might want to look?

awsome idea... every horsepower pulls a certain percentage of wieght, so thats a great way to boost performance, although a little expensive.

Weight reduction is the best mod. It improves every aspect of performance in one shot. The only way you could go wrong is if you removed all the weight from one end of the car and not the other.

Boo that Hairy Glass website doesn't have Cavalier parts... Does anyone else know of someone that does? Or how to mold your own parts? Is it legal to have fiberglass doors for street use?

dunno if you already know this or not, but get on v6z24.com and search for the fiberglass body. its in the faq for performance. its the fullf ront end in fiberglass.

and another thing i will add to the weight reduction is to get some light weight rims. not sure if you have stock or not, but most of the time stock rims are heavy as shit compaired to some of the after market rims you can get

I have lighter than stock 17's on my ride during summer time. Although this summer I think I am going to get some 18's which unfortunatly weight about 25lbs each plus 23lbs of tire... But its a wider contact patch and less sidewall so handling should be improved a little. They look so good and the price is amazing. I am a member of v6z24 so I will look that kit up. Thanks

that kit is like 6" longer in the front, i've thought about picking it up as well but don't feel like doing all the fiberglass work to make it look like stock.

To me it's easier just to make more power.

Yeah its 5" longer and its the 88-90 front clip which I am not really looking for. To bad.

How safe would aluminum bumpers be? Vehicles like the newer Corvette are aluminum frames so I assume that they are aluminum bumpers aswell. Could I get some really thick aluminum and be ok? I have felt the OE bumpers on a Corsica and the rear was heavy. It also had about 10-20lbs of dirt in it which I would make a sealed bumper to replace. Also what about swiss cheesing a bumper?
