      OWCH!

      How'd that happen?

I have 5 extra rods from another engine, but need to press the piston off before I can let it go. ARI sells rods for about $20, though.

Does anybody know off hand if the timing lobe on the cam is the same on a 3500 as a 3100? I'll print the pic and check out the 3500 cam tomorrow or Thursday if no one knows.

you know the engine ran fine before i tore it down.. not one funny or odd noise.. it had oil all over from cheap leaky gaskets so i tore it down to change gaskets.. well decided to check the rings and pistons, timing chain and sprokets, and decided to pull the cam for the hell of it.. well just today i found the bent rod and pull the pistons out last friday..

the cam has grooves in it and the cam bearings are bad.. i have a 3.4 DOHC block and hopefully those rods are good if not u will be hearing from me..lol

Just let me know about the cam.. im looking around for one and trying to get it on the fast side.. im trying to get this motor together so i can get on the road..

        thanks for the help

The cam is the only thing left in the block, lol. That 3500 got a working over I tell 'ya.

It has 20 something thousand miles on it. The main and rod bearings looked brand new.

Here's a pic of the cam and timing lobe. It looks like the 3500's have a 50% lobe and yours is just has a notch. The 3.4 SFI's have justa a tab on them. Wonder why the changes from GM?

This has been discussed many times. The pickup is different, by the sensor still picks up the leading edge, which is in the axact same location between all 3 designs.

Yes. Worse case would be to replace the sensor with one that matches the trigger...

Yes it's in good shape. I bought two 3500's about the same time and I can't remember which had what, but one was 22k miles and the other had 32k. Both were from '04 Malibu's.

                              I'll send a PM.
