  • anyone got a clue??

i have a 97 grand am gt with a 3.1 v6 motor. now here is the issue im having.hopefully someone on here has encountered this or knows alittle bout this.

when i get in the car in the morning or anytime is cold,it runs perfect,no issues. but once it warms up it has alittle hesitation. if im out on the highway rollinig bout 70 then it doesnt do it but when im in town where my rpm's are lower then it will start to do it. doesnt matter how far i push down the pedal it doesnt go anywhere until it goes into passing gear then it picks up.

someone told me maybe the cat but im kinda hesitant on that. the car has new plugs, wires, battery is new.alt is staying charged...

im stumped anyone got a clue???? thx in advance

possibly the o2 sensor.. or it also could be a clogged cat.

My '96 Achieva acted exactly like that when it had a clogged cat. You could also hear an exhaust leak when was at full throttle and winding high... as it built enough backpressure to push the pipe slightly off the manifold.

If that's the case, then you'll want to investigate WHY the cat became clogged... unless of course you plan on just busting out the substrate or installing a "test pipe". In which case you'll burn in hell.

        Nice

To the OP.. Drive the car at night for a while then pull over to a dark place and see if the cat is glowing red.. dead giveaway. Oh yah, and try not to get mugged.
