  • Piston reccomendations

    I am picking up a 3.4 for free for my Camaro next weekend but it doesn't have pistons with it. I'll take the opportunity to get some new pistons for the motor. I won't be running boost or N2O, just N/A. I want some pistons that would bump the compression up a little. Maybe around 10:1 or a little higher. I want to keep it street and stock tune friendly for the 2.8 tune. I would like to keep this as cheap as possible, so forged are out of the question, maybe hyper pistons.

    3.4 DOHC pistons would bump up the SCR if you are sticking with the iron heads... 9.95:1 with .040" gaskets... you'd have to check your piston to valve clearance though.

      I'll look into that. The motor will have the 260H cam and 1.6 roller rockers.

        Hey Dave, how much would DOHC pistons bump up compression on aluminum heads? isn't it like 13:1?

        Cammed 3400 --> 224whp 210wtq
        Cammed 3500 --> ???

          IIRC Ben put some in a motor with 3500 heads and it was 12.x:1, 3400 heads would be higher.

            12.4:1 is what I came up with measuring it. Its over 13:1 with 3400 heads I believe (stock).

              yeah, that sux. High compression(within reason) = custom pistons = money i dont have

                Would the 3.4 DOHC pistons use 3.4 iron head rings and fit the stock 3.4 rods?
