  • Converting to electronic fuel pump quesiton

Ray glad you got your swap going, we are much further behind you . I pulled off the mechanical fuel pump today, and I have two questions. There is for better words a "lifter" in the block that connected to the pump. Do I need to pull that out of the engine? I am used to a rod on a small block, not this type of assembly. Also, upon taking the bracket that held the fuel filter for the 88 motor,(dropping a 85 motor in) it appears that it will cover the old fuel pump hole, and bolt right up. Anyone used this before? I have looked for scrap metal in my area, and it is hard to find. The scrappers have all claimed it. I can purchase a piece, but if this bracket will work, then I will use it.
    Thanks as always

Yes pull the whole pump and pump rod assembly out. You must block the fuel pump hole with a plate.

OK...the fuel pump is out, two bolts not a problem. Now about the assembly inside the block. This thing slides down, but does not drop out. Please tell me that there is nothing internal that I need to do to get it out. Are there any suggestions for getting this thing out, other than a stick and bubble gum? By the oil seeping around the assembly, I am guessing that there is a hydraulic suction holding this thing in. Looking for suggestions. Betterthanyou thanks for your input....again.

There may be a slight burr or mushrooming holding it in. See if a good magnet can get it out.
