  • Cam position sensor

Im trying to figure this out, the cam position sensor on the '04 3400 is different than the '94 3100... both are 3 wire sensors. Its it possible to swap the two sensors, as in put the '94 3100 in the '04 3400 or will I have to splice wires to get them to work?

Thanks for any help and hopefully you guys can know what Im trying to ask lol

Hell I'm using a 05 3500 sensor on my MMS stage 1 cam, in my 04 block in my 95 car with a 96 beretta harness and 97 venture ecm............

Yeah I spliced in the new 04-05 connector to my harness

This is why I call my car a mutt...

I mean if the sensor that I have right now in my 3100 will fit, I figure I can use that cause it will be much easier to put in and Ill just have to plug it in and not solder anything. If it comes down to it I guess Ill have to solder it, but two of the three wires are different color so Id have to find out which ones to solder them onto haha

I think there is a difference in the cam ring. I know when we sent in 2 cams for regrinds, my 1999 3100 cam had a tab sticking up, but the 2000 3400 cam had a solid ring with a notch in it.

I didn't think they could be interchanged (using the newer 3400 cam and get it to work with the older setup). I thought if you had a 1996 and a 2002 3400 then you had to use the 1996 cam, and sensor.

This has been discussed several times and argued a ton. There are now 3 different cam trigger patterns, but all of them operate in the same manner (leading edge change). Therefore, all the sensors will still create a square wave that always changes the same, although the actual waveform may be slightly different. The PCM is looking for the change though, so any sensor should work with any cam.
