...I'm not to familiar with the 3.4, especially in the Impala. Anyways, what bolt-on smog-legal mods do they have for the 3.4 California crowd? I think it'd be cool and different to hop up one of these cars (it helps that I know where I can get them real cheap in great condition as well). I just wanna see the look on the face of some ricer when he get's smoked by a 2004 Impala....no one would expect it. Is there a way to make the super charger from the 3.8 Impala ss work on the 3.4? is the 3.8 in the SS a bored, stroked, or bored and stroked version of the 3.4, or are they completely different blocks? Well I earned my Newbie status, now I need some one to teach me...lol...thanx for any help. - Blazinlow83

The supercharger from a 3.8 will not bolt on, it would have to be a custom mod. The 3.8 is not a bored out 3.4 infact they are completely different. 3.8 (3800)is a 90 degree push rod engine w/cast iron heads and balance shaft. The 3.4 (3400) is a 60 degree push rod engine w/aluminum heads and no balance shaft. The 3.4 DOHC is a 60 degree 4 cam engine w/aluminum heads no balance shaft. The only engine that will be compatable with the 3400 is the 3100 (3400 is a stroked 3100).
There are some preformance parts at RSM, I believe there are others too.

Yes, the 3400 is a bored 3100. But actually, it is a different block with more meat around the cylinder walls for the larger displacement. So no, they didn't overbore the 3100 block for the additional 300 (more like 250) cc's. If the 3400 was a stroked version of a 3100, you would be reading alot more on here about people stroking these engines because there would be a different crank available. But, all 60V6s have used the same crank (basically) since the 3.1 was introduced way back in... 88?-Brad-

Never thought of the stroking thing. But really up untill this year the 3400 only had 10 more pony's anyway. Sheeeet you can get that with a K&N and plugs and wires.
K&N isn't worth the price. And plugs and wires don't make any difference except in an obscenely tricked out engine (or with a high-output ignition).--Rob
