  • Putting an electric fan on a 85 Cherokee?

I want to put an electric fan on my 1985 Jeep cherokee, with the 2.8 engine. I would like know what fans you guys recomend as being a good match for me. I would be taking off the crank driven to try to reduce some of the parasidic loss associated with turning the crank driven fan. Is there a write up on how to do this? Is there anything special I need to know about taking off the crank driven fan? Which fans work well for the 2.8? Will the electric fan cool the engine as well at the crank driven fan? Are you guys running a thermostat or just a straight switch that is controlled by the driver? Any advice/help is appreciated.

I run a small fan from a Toyata car. I only need this fan because I have no tranny cooler, oil cooler or air conditioning condenser inside or infront of the rad so my radiator has very little demand on it. My fan is hardly ever used. But when it is, it will quickly pull the temp down to the thermostat closing point in a couple minutes after turning on. the fan is only a single 13inch fan.

By brother rescently pulled a dual fan setup from a dodge intrepid and it fit the rad on his truck very well and it only needed minimal modification for mounting. You should take a tape measure to the junkyard and just find fans that fit and is easy to mount. For a vehicle with ac and an auto trans make sure it has dual fans. For a vehicle like mine with simply 1 rad for cooling the engine you can just buy a single fan.

I used a stock GM fan switch for control of the fan. I also have a toggle switch in the cab.
