I have an 85 Cherokee with the 2.8 GMV6, I've only had the Cherokee a few days and its just my luck that after I give it a full tuneup, replace the valve cover gaskets etc it loses oil pressure and develops rodknock!
Anyways, I've had 5 Fbodies, so I know alot of local resources to pick up a 3.4 out of a 93-95 cambird. I have a line on one but it has a 170k miles on it. I don't have the time or the money right this moment to tear it down and do a complete rebuild. This Jeep was supposed to be my daily driver, so I need minimal downtime for right now!
Anyways, would you guys trust a 3.4 with that many miles on it? I'm kind of sketchy on whether I should keep looking for a lower mileage 3.4 or not.
Also, I know the flywheel/flexplate needs to have the weights ground off and needs to be neutrally balanced. I know I need to use the 2.8 oil pan, I can use the 3.4 oil pump/pickup. All the accesories from the 2.8 will bolt right up to the 3.4 as well as the exhaust and intake manifolds. From what I understand, the 3.4 doesn't have a mechanical fuel pump, so I need to get a low pressure inline electric fuel pump.
I also read something about a oil pressure safety switch for the fuel pump, is this really nessecary? I do plan on wheelin' the jeep some, but don't think I'll ever do anything extreme enough to roll it over.
Any tips or hints/help or advice would be greatly appreciated! I don't have much time to learn everything possible about this swap. Ideally I'd like to accumulate all the needed parts so I can do the whole swap within a day or two and get the Jeep back on the road!
Thanks
