  • tach feed wire

Which wire do I need to tap into on a 2k3 Grand Am harness to pick up the RPM feed for an A/M tach? best I can find scouring schematics is pin E (ppl/wht) on the ICM plug that goes to the PCM?

Can you use the feed off of the 7x sensor??? I remember that it goes right to the coil for firing. Or does it change on the later models???

I believe my Megasquirt is using the ppl/wht wire for a tach signal. Should be pin E on the ICM.

Here's a new thing... I swear if its not one problem, its another.

Tach goes up to 3440-ish, then 0's out, both under light and heavy throttle. I verified that it works fine by hooking the tach wire to my Cav. Is there another wire I can use or even an adapter that works w/ the 3400

Should be able to just use the wire off the ICM. Thats what's used for normal aftermarket tachs... If that is giving you problems, then maybe the gauge is bad? That is the true fire place to get tach signal. That's what feeds my dash gauges and my cruise control. Nothing from the computer just straight from the ICM.

Is the aftermarket tach set up for a 4-cyl or a 6-cyl?

              6 cyl.

when I checked to see if the gauge would register over 3440 or so, i ran the wire to my Cav (4cyl), changed the cyl setting and bumped the rev limiter (4k.... blasted auto). read fine.

Well, ordered the MSD DIS tach interface, works like a charm

Guessing the problem was something to do with the SFI up to whatever RPM it switches...

Odd.... you should of been able to find a wire on there that would of worked...

At this point, my engine bay looks like a pot of spaghetti exploded trying to get a few things troubleshot so I'm sure I could have. At one point in the not so eventual future, I'm going to be running giggle gas, so that'll help with the RPM switch.

I hooked the tach on my car to a white wire that came right off the ignition module. Works great.
