  • Engine help

I currently have a 1984 Chevrolet Camaro with a 2.8, but the engine was trashed well beyond repair due to a thrown rod. So what I am asking is, what V6 engines and years will fit with either no to very little modification. I would like to have it finished by the end of summer. Please help. thanks

You can use a '93-'95 3.4 from a Camaro or Firebird and re-use your intake/carb and distributor if you like to keep things simple.

what would consist of transplanting from going from a 84 2.8 to a 3.4 of that year. would it the long block just drop in with the use of my intake or what does it entail in using its intake. Ive swapped engines before but they have always been the same engine never put a newer engine in an older car. If anyone else has any ideas I welcome them all. Thanks.

The only thing that comes to mind that would need changed is the use of an '88-up neutral balance flywheel/flexplate. Maybe a couple small items like an adapter fitting for your oil pressure sender or something.

I've talked to my wife and she is wondering how much work would entail in putting a 1985 4.3L into the 1984 Camaro. I know that it is a 90* but when she pays the bills I kinda gotta do what she wants to have put in.

Put it this way, a 3.4 Camaro engine would be like swapping a 350 in place of a 305...

Here look uit up here, lots of guys have done it in 82-92 fbodies...

Everything you would need to change to put in a 350 would also be required to put in a 4.3, so it's kind of a silly thing to do. Unless of course, you like to do things different. I personally would think it was cool, silly, but cool

to swap a 4.3l you need to use a v8 tranny (the 4.3 has the v8 bolt pattern). mounts would need to be changed, basicly you would have to do everything you would have to do when swapping a v8 in. so basicly swap in a v8 or stick with a 60*v6.

as stated, a 3.4l f-body motor would bolt right in, swap your intake manifold to it (or use an aftermarket 2.8l manifold) and carb. as stated, you need to use a neutral balanced flywheel/flexplate from 88+.
