  • 3.1 used in Isuzu trucks

Is there anything else different on the 3.1 engines used in Isuzu trucks besides the starter on the opposite side? I need to replace my engine soon and would like to upgrade to a 3.4 from a camaro. I am only interested in differences with the block, I can deal with everything else!

Just the starter. Goto s-series.org. Quite a few Isuzu guys have already done it.

Thanks! Lots of good info there! Some of the posts state that the motor in the isuzu is a front wheel drive block. I was under the impresion that the motor mount holes on a fwd block were completely different than on a rwd block. Whats the story there?

They are different. But I know that the Isuzu used the same mounting as the s-10's. The only difference there is was that one of the isuzu mounts only uses 2 bolts but on the s-10 there are 3 bolts. But it makes no difference because it mounts perfect.

That engine is used in the ?-95 Lumina/Transport vans, TBI. Front wheel drive.

The van block may be different. I believe the van uses a full FWD block. With FWD mounts. The Isuzu still has RWD mounts. Just the starter on the wrong side.
