  • Another ruined crank?!?

I bought this crank (inluding rods and pistons) from someone here on the site and everything seemed good, until I noticed this...

This is why I hate UPS, my USPS stuff never looks like this. It looked like they played football with the box, and one or the rods poked through the bubble wrap.

I need to get this one turned also, I was hoping for a bolt in deal.

I'm really tempted to bolt this in temporarily until I get my 3.4, would it be OK for a couple hundred miles and a few passes at the track?

I sympathize with you, I had my lesson in UPS shipping two weeks ago when my complete passenger side axle with intermediate shaft for the 6 speed transmission in the Pontiac G6 that I got an excellent deal on never made it. What was so insulting about the whole thing is that the delivery driver set the rather large box it was shipped in that had a big hole rubbed in the bottom and split seam, up against the door as if he or she had no idea the item that it contained was missing, instead of making note that the shipment was damaged or lost.

It was insured but since the 6 speed G6 is the only car that comes with that intermediate shaft and they are few and far between my chances of finding a replacement soon are slim and none, new it would cost me more than 4 times the price I paid for it.

So in the future, go USPS or stress triple and quadruple packing.

Yeah, I know. It's only that one spot .

EDIT: I'm glad I only paid $45 for the parts and 30 for shipping. I would have paid more if I knew it would get here safe.

Anybody else have a 3.1 crank with stock size journals?

I have a couple, but I think shipping will be outrageous to get to you though.

I'll check into shipping if you want me to.

How much do you want for the crank? I'll see if I can get a quote also, do you have FedEx up there (I have an account with them)?

Yeah there is Fed Ex "up here"

Just no depots like UPS has, that would make it conveinent, but putting it on your account would make it much easier and probably cheaper.

OWCH, it would be like $90 for shipping (UPS). I can get a turned crank for a little less, but I then would have to use oversize bearings. Let me weigh the options and get back to you.

I would rather not use UPS again if I can avoid it. This is added to the long list of items that have been dfamaged upon arrival...

Records with bent sleeves (yes vinyl records) ($100's of dollars),
Mixing board with a bent tab ($200),
Broken exhaust manifold (free, but I stll needed it),
                  and now a Crank ($45)...

UPS is starting to cost me a lot of money. The only time things arrive safe is if they are double packaged. USPS ALWAYS shows up with a nice neat box that looks brand-new (I have re-used several of them) and the UPS boxes look like somebody beat them like a piniata.

If they have a local branch, they will pick it up from you...

All you would have to do is package it nice .

It wasn't the packaging. Ask Dave how his Megasquirt looked, and I sent it in the box from my LC-1 WBo2 controller (it barely fit). It was sent USPS, got ther in two days.

Yeah that's a bit pricey, which I figured it would be.

I haven't had anyone express any disapointment in the packages I send through UPS, but I have always packed things in tough boxes and made sure they were packed well enough to withstand the hardest abuse, juts like everything I do, I over build. How was the intake mani box when you got it?

Intake looked good, along with the box. In fact I was picking those stupid packing peanuts out of all the ports and waterpassages for about 1/2 hour

Get lucky sometimes, but past experience is showing there is a good chance of something getting broke with UPS.

Yeah I figured you'd have fun with those peanuts.

It's all in how it's packed. I've noticed that just about anything that I've had shipped to me, regardless of who it's sent through has com ein with a damaged or ripped box, and can tell it's from the way it was packed not entirely the way it was handled.
