  • Tach Questions

Ok so i have aquired a tach and now i want to install. It has 4 wires green, white, black, and red. I know red is power and black is ground. What do the green and white wires do and where would i hook them up on a 3.1 mpfi?

Green is probably for the light, and white is the signal wire. Connect that to the ICM (6-pin connector) as shown below:

The ICM is in the engine compartment and is the module that the coil packs sit on top of. So on a 91 Cutlass, it would be near the oil filter IIRC.

I'm sure reading the instructions would clarify the wire colors as well. But maybe that would make sense... And I haven't hooked up a tach in probably 15 years, so I was basically guessing (hence the "Green is probably").

Yup, the white C tach signal on the 6 pin connector.

I almost installed a tach in my car until I found a full gauge cluster for my car. Looks much nicer.

                    Tach

What kind if tach will work on an '86 2.8 S10? And how would it hook up?

Any tach will work, hook them up to the negative side of the coil.

Which side of the S10 divorced coil is the negative side? Two plug ins going to it.

                        Thanks

The 2 plugs are really 1. The pink is power and the white is the signal or negative side. Either plug can be used they are effectivly spliced once plugged into the coil.
