So I pulled it off without marking it, figuring it was keyed somehow. If it is, I don't know what im looking for Anyone know how to set it up or if I should just figure it getting balanced without it and using the external trigger.

You're a little short on detail but I gather you are talking about a 7x ring to replace the one that came with the crank originally.
I put a balancer lightly on a 7x crank, then glued a long piece of thread with a little weight attached to it to the face of the balancer after lining the thread up so that it passed through the center of the number #1 crank notch.
I then installed the balancer on the 3500 crank and marked the point beneath the thread on the crank and lined the #1 notch on the 7x ring up with the mark I put on the crank.
The crank was standing on its flange end of course and though I can't believe it, I didn't take pictures to illustrate it. Just be mindful that the ring is not installed backwards.
Ben... could you please measure the outside diameter of the hub where the ring presses on? I am curious about how the diameter compares to a 3400 hub and if it would be possible to put slots in the 3500 hub.
pulley doesnt matter, it is the fact that the timing ring has to be indexed to the crank. pulley is used as a reference because it is keyed and wont move in relation to its position on the crank from one to the other
I hate to be the forum idiot but,
my 2000" 3100 crank pulley/dampner along with crank trigger fit right on my
05" 3500
just in trial stages currently,
what does the crank trigger kit, offered in the store for this conversion do?
what don't i know?
wait! don't answer that,lol
what is it that the trigger kit does that is different from simply changing around what i have?
