No they are not. The rear is similar, but not eaxactly the same, the front is no where near the same, and I believe the Fiero use a lower cradle type mount that attaches to teh front of the block, that interferes with the oil pan, and a bolt hole location was changed on teh block that would be used for this to be bolted to. The bolt hole towards the front of the car.

from what I have been told at the pennocks fiero forum..
it should fit with a little work on the mount thats on the
      distribution side of the engine.

        On what side?

I personally have not swapped one into a fiero, I'm just going on what I know of the two engines, and what I have seen on forums, pictures and text.

I may be doing a swap like this soon though, I'm looking at buying an '84 2M4, though I would probably go custom mounts in my situation anyway, since I'll be making a lof changes......

Maybe big Diesel 6.5 turbo on the Duke before swapping it out?

nah..the fiero uses only one engine mount
and 2 transmission mounts in total.

the eng.mount is the one directly beneath the cranckpulley.

Yes, that's the mount I was speaking of. I KNOW it will not just bolt onto the genIII engine, since the bolt hole on the right side (when viewed from the crank pully end), has changed postion, and I believe the oil pan interferes as well, since the oil pan sits lower on the genIII than the genI.

right, there has to be some material removed on the fiero bracket.
but it has been done before so that shouldn't be much of an issue.

I actually just did this sunday. I removed a notch from the fiero engine mount bracket (the L shaped one) and also removed an L shaped wedge from the aluminum oil pan on the 3100. For now, i did it just to get it on the cradle and in the car so I can wheel it out of the garage.. but when Im putting it in there for good, I think im going to fab something up because the notching seems like it will weaken the mount too much.

As for the bolt holes.. the one that change doesnt apply to the mount in question.
                I modify stuff
