  • Interested in ben's chip "serious buyer"

I want to be sure I know what I'm getting before I do so I have a few question just to verify a few things.

I'd appreciate answers from the following?
    -----------------------------------------------
    A. Where is the chip located in my car so I can pull it out?

    B. Is there anything I need to be aware of once I put in the chip?

    C. Will changing the shift points affect the performance and fuel side of my car?

    D. I don't really understand how shift points work, seeing that you do, could I describe to you how I would like it and you justify the shift points from my description?

    E. If I were to get a new set of headers installed and I had the chip and wanted to get a tune, could I just get it done at a shop or do I go to you?

    -appreciate

    A. What year car and motor? More than likely it's under your coolant overflow container.
    B. There is nothing you need to be aware of.
    C. Changing shift points will enhance the performance of the car. Fuel consumption will remain untouched.
    D. Again, depending on your year car and motor changing shift points will be beneficial because generally, 3.1's shift waaay to late after they make power, therefore slowing them down. By adjusting shift points, your car will shift either earlier or later, effectively making your car quicker because it's continually in it's power-band.
    E. You would have to send the chip back to Ben to have the chip retuned. For many reasons. But it would still work out to be cheaper than having a shop tune it.
'93 Sunbird. 5spd, 3.1, it's fast. Oh, and 240k miles has proven lethal against Turbo Talons

I'm lurking occasionaly. It's tough because I'm usually too busy with the Army or my 5.0 Mustang. Which is for sale.

      what year/make is your vehicle ? obd1 or 2 ?

      stock motor? any mods?

obd1--->shift control can only be done on $df code

anymods done to the car will effect volumetric efficiency, and will need to be tuned specific to your needs, you would need to be able to give some scan results to the tuner and he can then adjust(tune) the chip
either by giving you the modified bin file and you burning it yourself or by mailing the chip
you would prolly be doing this alot(giving scan results... getting a bin to burn)

also your motor would need to be mechanicly sound
if its not running right and its stock chances are somthigns wrong and that needs to be fixed before you can tune
also your sensors have to be in good working order and isntall a new o2 sensor before tuning

but if your motor is stock and is in good running condition, you have an obd1, then chances are bens chip is a direct replacment and good to go, i think he includes an adapter for the chip as well?not sure

not sure what kind of services ben offers
you can pm him and ask, is your best bet
