  • Which kind and shape tips mke our exhst sound DEEP

anyone? The round tips I have now, for some reason I think are stopping the car from sounding as deep and raspy as it could. The sexy original Pontiac ovals are not on it
'93 Sunbird. 5spd, 3.1, it's fast. Oh, and 240k miles has proven lethal against Turbo Talons

I'm lurking occasionaly. It's tough because I'm usually too busy with the Army or my 5.0 Mustang. Which is for sale.

Exhaust tips won't really change the sound unless they're really long. The biggest influences on the exhaust tone is first, the muffler, then pipe diameter and length. The larger the diameter and the longer the pipe, the lower the sound will be.

      "boom tubes"

      the ones in this picture...

those are 3" wide, 18" long polished stainless. they made a noticible difference in the sound. I just swapped out the dual resonator tip on my other Z24 for a 3.5" wide boom tube, sounds alot deeper now...

Well I have a dynomax ultraflo and with no tip or tailpipe from it, it sounded super deep and loud then got quiet at 2k rpm on up. I put on a tail pipe and Z26 tips and it made it quiet until you get on it. But it's not as deep and more rumbly/raspy...

But the Z26 tips open up and then have flat washers restricting the flow that the gases kind of just ram into. I almost want to drill them out to improve flow since the resonator was a similar setup and getting rid of that improved power a lot.
