  • I Need Help :( on a motor ?

Hey im new to 60Degree and i really need help on somthing ... So i just bought a 1987 pontiac fiero 5 speed im really excited about it the only problem is the motors blow it was a stolen recovery car i got from the junk yard. i got a 3.1 out of a cutlass supreme and i want to if its entirely possible to put the 3.1 in the fiero. i want to do this because i got the 3.1 motor and i really dont feel like having to look for another 2.8 when i can put a bigger motor in it... If anyone can give me any information i would be very thankfull i have been lookin on the internet for days and im really getting about not being able to find the answer so please if anyone can help me....

I don't know, myself... but tell us what year the Cutlass is, and you'll have a better chance of getting an answer.

The cutlass only ever was equipped with the genII 3.1.

Yes, it possible, but it's not a direct bolt in, close but not entirely.

IIRC, the genII alternator sits high, and is very close if not touching the underside of the engine cover, but I believe this is a double thick area and can trim out the area, to clear, but chekc this for sure.

The ECM will need to be swapped to a genII ECM, 7730 from a Cavalier or Beretta, that had a V6 would be good, the DIS ignition has different variables than a dizzy equipped 2.8, also VE is different and just using the matching ECM would be best.

Upper mounts are different, but I don't recall the differences.
IIRC the Cutlass (W-body) dogbone anchors were used with custom length dogbones, but it has been a while since I looked at this swap.

I know there are a few genII and III swapped P-bodies on pennocks fiero forum, so take a gander through some threads over there.
