3.4 Stupid Question

Hi guys , if I was to obtain a 1996 3400 out of a Pontiac Transport , can I use my 1988 TBI manifold with a 4.3 Throttle Body , can I use my 2.8 motor mounts on the 3400 block and are the 3400 exhaust manifolds the same bolt pattern as my 2.8 , so as I could use 2.8 headers , I realize the 3400 is a front wheel drive but I would like to put in my 1988 S10 if it is possable thanks Bill...

You can use it in the S-dime, but will be a HOLE lot of work. To use the 3400 complete, you'll need to extensivly modify the crossmember, and/or modify the oil pan, probably both.

The starter will need to be moved to teh proper side, which will require welding a cast wedge to the block (not easy) and drilling and tapping new holes for the starter. Custom left mount, right mount will bolt on, mostly.
You would need a custom intake to use the TBI, you'd bebetter off converting to MPFI with the DIS ignition. You heacers will need new flanges to match the exhaust ports and bolt location.
There is a whole slew of other little things that would need to be changed to get it to work too, especially with all the belt drive components, that's not just as easy as swapping them over, since the heads use a different bolt pattern for accessory mounts, and the T-stat neck, along with the TB require a different belt routing than stock.

Hi Raven , thanks for your response , I wasen`t too sure if it would swap , it was a good deal though ( 60,000 clicks, complete engine for $225 ) I am having trouble trying to find a 3.4 outta the Camaro or Firebirds here , probably same thing everyone it trying too find them to replace their tired 2.8 `s . Any other poabilities ? What about a 3.8L ? Don`t want too use the 4.3 as they are gas GUZZLERS. It is going in my S10 (8 with the 700R4 Tranny and it would be nice to find something that bolts to my tranny. Thanks Bill...

A 3.8L wont bolt to your transmission. A 3800 would but everything else, again requires alot of fabrication.

The 3.4L F-body swap is the only true boolt in swap. You could buy a crate motor aswell.
