  • Need to know size of Gen II bell housing bolts

    Hey folks,
Does anyone on here happen to know the proper size of the bell housing bolts for a Gen II? I was originally told that they should be M10x1.5, but these are not big enough. I want to get the proper size so I get them right this time. I need them to put my new built short-block on an engine stand until I can finish it. Any help would be much appreciated!

    Thanks!

Don't worry about it. The way the search is set up right now sucks, so I need to try to fix it. I just knew that it had been discussed a few times before, so I knew it was out there.

I am kind of surprised that these bolts aren't as easy to find as I thought they might be. Long metric bolts aren't stocked much here in Madison. I went to a local hardware store, and they had nothing longer than 60mm. I did manage to get some M12x1.75s last night at Home Depot, but the longest ones they had were only 80mm. Based on my engine stand, these should work, but 100mm would be better. Thanks again for the tip! Once the motor is on the stand, I'll get some pics posted with info.

I have two engine stands and both use different length bolts, so I picked up a pc of threaded rod and some nuts at Lowes, then sawed the rod into 6" pcs. Easy to use... just screw the studs into the block then throw on the nuts with some washers.

That's a heck of an idea Marc... I'll have to try that (even though I already have the bolts, currently holding the 3500 on the stand).

                Thanks Brad

For anyone interested, if your local hardware store doesn't carry this size, you can get it at www.mcmaster.com for $5.20 plus shipping. They are fast and very reasonable on the shipping charges. I usually get things in one day from them.

i was just about to say, metric threaded rod is VERY difficult to find, I would get some if it were easier to get.
