I have an OBD-II interface that connects to a laptop via USB. There are LOTS of free and "not so free but they CAN be free " tools out there for the PC as well.

The interface ran me $74 shipped. It's basically a powrtuner without the tune part.

sounds like not too good a scanner, dont know how accurate it would be in regards to refresh and sample rate...but work with what u got i say...they have a few auto tap syst out there that arent too bad. also the map will also take a baro reading sometimes also...dont remember how that mixes in, just remembered that much

It's not a scanner it's just an interface... it can't not be "very good" since it just converts OBD-II to a USB signal.

As far as refresh rate, it's based on the ELM 2.0 chipset... I'm unsure how fast that can run however I can get fairly instant reports in RPM and VSS on the screen.

I think some of the data not showing up is the program not knowing what exactly to look for... I need to play with it more I haven't really set anything up.
