I just bought an 87 chevy s10. it has the 2.5 lt with the 5 speed and needs a new clutch.. well i have a turbo 3.1 ltr outa a junk tgp that I would like to swap in.. I could just do the 350 swap but thats just tooo common. so could it work???

As far as I know the 3.4L will bolt up, as long as you use a bell housing, pressure plate, clutch disc, etc, from a 1980s 2.8L V6 S-10. Careful on the flywheel. The 3.4 is internal balance and takes a neutral balance flywheel. Early 2.8L engines were external balance, and had a balance weight on the flywheel. Later 2.8L engines were internal balance, you need flywheel from a an 89 and later S-10 to work with a 3.4L.

That is all I think I know.

did you copy and paste that from somewere??? he is talking about going from a 2.5l duke to a 3.1l fwd.

the 2.5l bellhousing will actualy bolt right up to the 3.1l. you will need a 2.8l neutral balanced flywheel (88+) from a truck. also you will need the v6 clutch.

keep in mind though, this is a 4 cyl t5, its not designed to take power. dont be surprized if it blows to peices.

i figured it would need to be stonger but no one can tell me what rwd tranny will bolt up and handle the power... I figured i would take the tranny to a shop and have as much upgraded as posible... I just realy love the 3.1turbo in my grand prix and would love to see what this motor can do with out the fwd traction isues..

yeah, i have a 2.5 T5 trans bolted up to a 3.4 DOHC, same deal, it'll work fine.

you can see pics of my similar situation in my build thread.

a t-5 from a v8 camaro would work. 2 big problems though, the v8 version uses a 1 1/8" 20 spline input shaft were the v6 (and 4 cyl) use a 1" 14 spline input shaft. the other issue would be the shifter, the camaro shifter is in a different spot.
