If you get something rated 2795 for a four cylinder you can be pretty sure it will be at least that or more for a 6 cylinder with greater displacement but at that level of stall the sudden shock to the drive train is going to take it's toll on something not unlike what dumping the clutch in a manual transmission would eventually result in.

its easy to figure out were your converter stalls out at, all ya gotta do is a stall test.

-with it running, pump the brakes up good and hard, have the parking brake set, and put your foot into the throttle untill the rpm wont climb anymore. thats the stall speed.

a friend of mine has a 2950 stall oe rebuilt conveter behind hiw 2.4l twin cam. the thing doesnt act like a high stall converter. with a typical aftermarkey street/strip high stall converter, when you put it in gear, the car will hardly move till you rev it up. his car doesnt do that, and it doesnt stall at 2950, its actualy lower than that.

if you are serious about wanting a performance converter, look into the aftermarket. there are a few out there for the 125/4t60/e/4t65e/4t40e/45e.

i agree with sharkey, if you want the "have to give it gas to go" feel, then go with a custom or aftermarket

I would love to get one of the ATI converters sold by Intense Racing, or a ZZP converter, but I don't have the cash. We're doing a self rebuild on an extra tranny for cheap, and I'm just looking for a known converter speed from a stock GM application. I know that with big power numbers we run the risk of the TC ballooning, but honestly at ~240 crank hp I'm not worried quite yet. I appreciate the concern, but my focus is still a TC from a stock application.

stall speed isn't an exact science. i have a 4T60E and a 125C both with 3.1's. one stalls at 2800, and the other stalls at 2500. -shrug-
