i was using alldata at class the other day and found out my 2.8 s-15 4WD has a TH-700R4, would i be able to swap it out with a TH-350 out of another 4WD truck?

Are you sure that it has that transmission?? Ive only heard of that being used on small block v8's?? Alldata and shopkey and stuff are wrong from time to time... Anyways, onto ur question... If im not mistaken a turbo 350 and a 700 r4 are pretty much the same transmission, one is just an earlier model. If you cant find the right bell housing on a turbo 350 you should be able to swap the guts?? Also, make sure you set the throttle cable up right when you do the install or the transmission will be junk in no time.

lots of missinformation here
there never was a th 350 with a small gm pattern. before 84, all cars with the small gm pattern got a th180 or th200. both were rather different from a 350. the th200 can be built up as a strong tranny. all of these are 3 speed transmissions.
a 700r4 came out in 84 and a few years later replaced the th 350, 200 and 180. the 700r4 is a 4 speed with lockup. it shares nothing with a turbo 350, completly different tranny. the 700r4 is longer than a 350. the 700r4 was also made with a small gm pattern, and was behind 60 degree v6 motors.
why would you want to swap to a th350??? are you building a dedicated trail rig??? id stick with the 700r4. it is just as strong as a th350, has a lower (numericaly higher) first gear than a 350, has overdrive and lockup for fuel mialage. a 350 is 60s technology, a 700r4 is 80s technology, and most of it is still being used today (the 4l60 e, used in f-bodies and trucks is basicly an electronic 700r4).
i dont realy understand why people always want to swap from a 700 to a 350, its just like swapping from efi to a carb.

the 4l65e got a 5 pin planetary, however thats the planet that doesnt break anyways. they also upgraded to a stronger sungear/shell, however they still can strip the splines out of the sunshell. every 700/4l60e our shop builds, we have the gear welded to the sunshell to prevent stripping.
our shop has built a couple 700r4's that are behind 600hp+ motors, and they are lasting. it doesnt take much to build them up, corvette servo, welded sungear/shell, jr shift kit, and a high stall converter. one of them we built we did a lockup delete, and used a non lockup converter.
