  • OBDII manual swap

Going to swap a 5 speed manual into my 96 Grand prix 3100.... I have all the wiring figured out for the clutch safety switch, reverse lights, speed sensor, saftey switch for starter, and the load switch that is on the clutch...

but my question is... with swapping out the 4T60-E for the manual.. would i have to change anything in the ECM? since there will be some wires that are not going to be used... like the shift solenoid wires... will that throw a code? Wanting this to be a clean swap.. so im doing as much research as I can...

Contact heavywoody here on the site. He did a 5-spd swap into his 96 Beretta. IIRC, he didn't do anything to the PCM.

I thought you had to config the PCM for it to work right? Seems like you would have to, becuase as soon as the PCM didn't detect the auto shifting it should start tossing codes.

I swapped a 5 speed into my then 3100 equipped 95 beretta and i didn't have to mess with the ecu at all.

I think woody's car was a 95. I'm running a 5 speed with OBD II and my SES light is on because of the pcm not snsing shift solenoids.

not only will the pcm throw codes, but its going to derate the engine (pull timing to limit power). the best thing to do would be to get a power tuner and disable the auto trans functions.

Because it's OBD-II you have to turn all the tranny fault codes off in the ECM and reset your rev limiters. It can be done without getting codes, it's just a pain in the ass ironing them all out.
I may own a GTO now, but I'm still a 60V6er at heart.
