  • 4t60-e issue

i bought my 93 z34 off slick, who got it from some kid in michigan who supposedly built the 4t60-e in it with "4t65-e internals and 2 shift kits" and it has a 3,000rpm stall converter. and has around 20k on it now. with the way this guy hacked some of the stuff on the car i'm not sure i trust his transmission rebuild skills.

chris(aka slick) sent me this when i asked him exactly what it was doing, as i've not driven it but once, and currently has a broken park/neutral switch so the p/n rev limiter kicks in even when in gear and won't let you over 4k rpm.

"Well, I think no matter what, once it hit around ~~5800 RPM, it was like it was slipping out of gear and free reving. It would bounce off of the rev limiter and not shift into the next gear. Once I let off, around 5000-5500 RPM's, it was go back into gear, and you could drive it again."

i've found nothing like this in my factory tranny troubleshooting chart. sound like something wrong internally or could there be a chance of something easy on the outside being wrong? i know from experience that higher stall converters can build more heat in the tranny - maybe the stock cooler wasn't enough and cooked this one?

It is momentarly going neutral... maybe the foward band is slipping at that speed... or the valvebody is buzzing.....you have an djustable modulator on that transmission?

get a scan tool on it and watch the data stream, see when the computer is commanding the shift. if the computer is comanding the shift and it isnt happening, you have internal tranny issues. if its not commanding the shift, then look at your computer inputs (tps, iat, map, ect) and make sure they are all what they should be.

guess step one is to fix the bad park/neutral switch and get myself a temp tag and some insurance and borrow a scan tool.
