    Well as posted previously, i took my 4t60-E into the trans shop. This is the one that stranded me on the way up to the last meet.. blew out the front seal and burned up all its fluid.

    I talked to the shop owner, he says that when he pulled the pan he found lots of metal bits, which were most likely from the converter. He also says the pump stator was bad (very small input shaft) and when those go bad it creates a passthrough flow and creates high pressure towards the seal.. which means blow seal. He says 4t60's are known to be bad about this so its probably nothing I could have prevented.

    He also pulled the side pan and found the switches and solonoids got really hot, and need to be replaced. All of this he says when added to a rebuild kit and you are out $600 in parts.. so that answers my question of why it costs so much.
