1993 Lumina 3.1V6 w/ 4T60E tranny... 138,000 miles.
When the car is driven, 1st and 2nd gear work fine. When the car shifts into 3rd or 4th, it immediately locks the TCC (torque convertor clutch). It will not unlock when the brake pedal is pressed, or when you slow down to as little as 15 mph. It does seem to unlock if you floor it and force it to shift back to 2nd, or if you slow down to a speed such that the rpms are down to around 500.
I even disconnected the brake pedal switch so that (according to the shop manual), the TCC should not get any voltage. Same symptoms.
My theory is that the TCC solenoid is stuck in the apply position for some reason and that in 1st and 2nd gear there is no excess fluid pressure routed thru the apply line that would enable the lockup to happen. In 3rd/4th there is. Is that theory correct?
Where is the TCC solenoid located and is there a way to disable it mechanically or just replace it without removing the tranny from the car?
Thanks for any suggestions....
