  • Auto vs 5spd

Say you owned a 96GP sedan, and your tranny was starting to go. When it went, would you

    A, have it fully rebuilt.

B, have it swapped out for a 5spd (one that is going to last, cost may include swapping clutches, whatever else would need to be done).

We'll assume you can do none of this work yourself and would be finding someone/someplace to do A or B. What would each run $ wise? Since it's a sedan you'd have to get new front seats and stuff, so figure that into the price.

Also figure trying to make the PCM accept it...

Its possible, and has been done.

I know it's possible, but will it end up being cheaper than a full auto rebuild?

If you do the swap yourself, probably cheaper than an auto rebuild. Paying someone, probably not!!!

I'd just grab a low mileage junkyard auto if you are looking to save money and have someone put it in.

If you want to do it yourself then do it, or do the 5spd project. I don't even think you'll find any shops willing to do a swap like that anyways.
