  • 4T60E. Thicker Tranny Pan??

I know this is an awkward question. But, I've already busted 2 tranny pans on my '96 Buick Century. Once on a speedbump at 10mph with 5 people in the car. A second time scraping going into my driveway at idle speed!

I'm tired of going to the junkyard and getting a replacement and having lost $50 worth of fluid on my driveway.

My question is this::: Does anyone know of a company that makes a thicker tranny pan or one that is less prone to damage?? I know this ain't no Jeep but it really sucks having to drive AROUND speedbumps instead of OVER them.

And yes, part of it is that my suspension sucks and needs some major work as well.

I figure, if no one makes a pan for it, it looks like a pretty simple design, I'll grab some 1/4" plate and weld up my own.

Fix your suspension. You'd be suprised how much of a difference it will make. My car both the springs and struts were shot. Slight dips /bumps in the road going 30mph I would bottom out on that other peoples cars wouldn't even bounce.

How about fabbing up a basic skidplate instead?

INtense (search intense 4t65e in the web) has a HD aluminum pan built for the 4t65-e. They interchange with yours.

THe other thing might be is that your springs are weak or the struts are done. Might wanto check the engine and tranny mounts also.

I thought I posted a reply to this, but it's not here. Defiantly look into your suspension. My struts were blown when I got my car, AND my springs. Goign 30mph just the slightest dip in the road and I would bottom out.
