  • 4t60e gearing and computer mod for 96?

I have a 96 buick regal, I bought the car for 500 bucks and threw a junkyard tranny in it. Now, of course its starting to go. I have the other tranny still and I'm just gonna rebuild this first one and bore out the feed holes to the shift solenoid (as one of the 4t60e articles said) hopefully before this one goes out. I was looking into changing the gear ratio with the chain and sprockets and diff from a corsica and olds cutlass I have lying around while I'm at it. First is the gear set from the 2.4l Q-4. 4t60e weaker or a bad choice? Second about the computer, what will I have to do so my reg. doesn't shift at the way wrong times? Does it use the ABS hall effect sensors to shift or what? Any comments would be helpfull, these damn FWD trannnys with computers are no turbo 350!!!

signal is the VSS signal from the transmission itself that goes into the computer.

to help the computer realize what is going on, youll have to contact DHP to get their Powrtuner.

stupid? yes. hence i havent changed gearing in my car because im not about to pay $400 for a stupid Powrtuner.

You do not need to do anything computer wise depending on the amout of gear change really... I went from 2.97 to 3.33 and my computer shifts at the same RPM's, yes I did swap the tone ring on the diff from a 29 to a 30, but I changed the gear ratio by 12% and the spedo only by 3% so those two changes didnt make my spedo read the same speed for shifting.

The ECM shifts according to RPM at WOT so some of your crusing shift points will raise up but WOT it will shift fine.

I found out the only thing that it does change is kickdown shift points... I guess those are marked by speed but sometimes doesn't it seem like the sluggish 4t60e should have shifted down but just doesn't... well with the gear change and leaving the ECM alone it tends to drop down a gear more often and rip it up to 5500 and shift... so I think with my slight speedo correction it helped but it wasnt necessary.
