  • storing a transmission help

i recently found a great deal on a low mileage 4t60e. i just don't have a need for it now, but since it's such a great deal i figured i would just buy it just in case.

is there anything i can do to make it last while just sitting there. ie. draining the fluid or something, wrapping it in plastic?????

and i know someone is going to ask, the trans is out a 97 lumina with 60K miles and the trans was tested, and i even got to see it get up about 45 mph with no problems before it was pulled. and i got it for $236 after tax, prolly not the best deal in the world on a 4t60e but i'm happy with my purchase.

My son bought a 4t60e last fall. I said what the hel did you buy that for, you don't need it. Well guess what. My 96 GP needs a tranny. I'm glad he bought it when he had the chance.
Paid $200 it's a newlly rebuilt and he didn't see it run.

keep all the fluid in. try to keep it in a garage or basement, and wraping it in plastic after hitting some key points with oil is good.

        Keep the oil in it!

MAKE SURE ITS IN A WARM, DRY SPOT

OR THE CONDENSATION WILL Wreck it. Keep it dry. If it gets too cold the condensation will build on the metal parts and rust them, and then the tranny is useless without a re-build.
