This may sound stupid, but did the 4t60e ever come with different gear ratios.

The reason I'm asking this question is that I have recently taken my car to a local shop, so that the transmission can be fixed. The problem was that the Trans would kick out of overdrive after a few minutes of driving. Since I bought the vehicle I have put in another transmission from a different vehicle. Sadly I didn’t know what vehicle it was taken from. The Trans had worked without any problems until I put another brake switch to repair the broken one.
I drove it for a month like this, no problems except for the no overdrive part.
Now it’s at a mechanic shop being worked on. The mechanic says it’s nothing in the Trans or the sensors. He seems to think that it’s the ECU or the prom making the mistakes. He tells me that since I have put another Trans in it could be different gear ratios or final drive ratio could be different and the ECU is just now picking it up. So would someone PLZ help with this problem any kind of a suggestion would greatly help?1995 3.4 DOHC Grand Prix gtp

Ok good I'm getting somewhere now. Is there a way to tell what kind of gear ratio it has, and kind should gear ratio should a 95 grand prix have. Also I dont really feel like paying for a new or used trans so is there a way to either trick the ecu or maybe reprogram it.1995 3.4 DOHC Grand Prix gtp

you could look on the ID tag on the trans and find the 4 digit code, then look it up. that would tell you the gearing.
as for tricking the computer, there isnt anything you can do. being a 95, you are the dreaded obd 1.5. its half obd1, half obd2, and nobody makes anything for it.

you sure it's kicking out of OD or coming out of lock up? if it's in lock up and you tap the brake, the converter unlocks. if it's doing this as you drive and you just put in a new brake switch, make sure the brake switch disenguages all the way. maybe the brake pedal is tapping it here and there while you drive. the same thing happend on my 97 lumina, and i noticed the brake lights were on as i walked away from the car. i adjusted the brake switch and problem solved!Andy

Ill give it a try, maybe if I play with the switch a little it will quit. Funny thing is I got it back last week and havent drove it until now and guess what no problems, but it was a short drive after all. Maybe If I take the brake switch off entirely and drive on some back roads I can find out if the brake switch is actualy causing the problem.1995 3.4 DOHC Grand Prix gtp
