vertical gate shifter?

This is an idea i've been toying with for a while. and since im a and lost a few parts to my old shifter while it was apart, now is as good a time as ever to go for it.

the forward/backwards throw would be the same, the left/right motion would be locked, and i'd use a cable or a linkage attached to a bar (under a cool "hammer head" or "t-handle" )to actuate the lever that the gate selector cable is attached too.

my car is getting the old 4 speed re-installed when the swap finaly takes place so i also need ot figure out how to get a reverse lock out into the picture., i've got my own set of ideas, feel free to submit your own. 2 heads are better than one. <---- that sounds like 4-banger bash comment.

the long thing on the lower left is a spring, it should keep you in the 1-2 gate, unless your pulling up on the gate select bar. the round "peg" on the left is actually the reverse lockout, all this is just a basic idea.
