WARNING: RIDICULOUSLY LONG POST-I used the search function as I guess these TCC soloneoid's go out often but couldn't find any detailed instructions on how to replace them youself, just how to diagnosis it.
I have a 90 GP with the 3.1 and 4-speed tranny. Sometimes (it is sporadic) when you get off the gas after cruising at highway speed the engine will struggle and eventually die. Suprisingly it doesn't do it when it is cold outside(didn't do it the whole winter) but if it gets to be 60 degrees+ outside, it will do it very often unless you shift it into nuetral and goose it a little bit before you start braking. I assume it is the TCC-what are the actually steps for replacing this?
Also, my speedo sporadically works, has been that way for 6 years. Again, it is tempature related. In winter it works, it summer it will read sporadically and sometimes not read at all (but honestly officer my speedo said i was going 0 mph). The gauge cluster has been replaced...some say these speedos are mechanically driven (and i wouldn't know how it could give these symptoms if it was), other say there is a VSS...which one is it and how do i fix it?
While i'm getting all the questions out i might as well use this one post! My rack and pinion is shot...the steering clunks, vibrates and you can feel it in the tie rods on both sides if you hold them and turn the steering wheel back and forth. How much of a b*tch are they to replace and does anyone have any tips?
Thanks for all the help. This site rules and I look forward to learning alot. THis car was my grandfathers new and then my father had it after he passed, now it got passed on to me so there is alot of sentimental value in it..prolly gonna dump a bunch in it to keep it running but its worth it!
