the biggest thing is controlling the tranny. first off, do you have a 440t4 or 4t60e??? the 440t4 will have a kickdown cable atatched to the top of the tranny, the 4t60e wont. the reason im asking is the 4t60e did come out in some cars in late 91, but realy wasnt common till 93.

the biggest thing is controlling it. the 4t65e uses an epc solonoid to controll pressure instead of a vacume mod like the 4t60e does. you would have to swap the entire wiring harness to something that has a 4t65e and that means obd2. the only other option is the stand alone controller for the tranny (IIRC $750). however, if yours is a 4t60e, then you have to burn a chip for the stock ecm. an ecm with the 4t60e code in it will go into limp mode when the tranny isnt hooked to it.

I'll be doing this swap soon. The easiest way to swap in a 4T65E is to take the complete engine, transmission, and wiring harness assembly out of a 97 Z34 and swap it directly into your car. Otherwise, it is possible to swap a 4T65E-HD, but will take a bit more effort. The 97 Z34 computer is needed to control it (or an aftermarket transmission computer). The 4T65E-HD will need some modifications done to the axles (4T60E/4T65E-HD hybrids are required) and computer code (FDR is different). The torque converter for the 4T65E-HD is also different from the one used in the 4T60E and 4T65E and will not work. You should be able to reuse your 4T60E torque converter. I believe there are some other changes needed, but are fairly minor and all in all this is a simple mainly bolt in swap.
