Can we use an older 4t60e on a 01 Impala??

So my buddy's girlfriend has a 2001 Impala with a 3400. So it has the 4t60e. I know the older 4t60e's will bolt up but will older ones from older beretta and w-bodies will be a direct drop in with no changes? Any help would be appreciated, this is her only car and we need to get it back on the road ASAP.

On junkyarddog i got a tranny, shipped for 300 bucks, with 90 days warranty. Not a bad deal. Still use it too.

You'll be wanting a w-body transmission from 97 to, I believe 03. The 04+ tranny uses different connections once again. So they dont really swap in.

I know of the differences between 4t60e and 4t65e. I was told the car had a 4t60e and I was wondering if the old 4t60e's are the same. But yeah if it has a 4t65e she's just gonna have to spend the money......no shortcuts...

yeah a lot of people think the 3100/3400's are not mated to the "oh so tough" 4T65E's since they're usually base models. The easiest way to check is to look for a metal vacuum line going from the engine's upper intake manifold down to a vacuum modulator (small canister) on the tranny. The 4T60(e) uses this setup, while the 4T65e does not.

But uhm. Since they didnt make the 4t60e in 2001, then it's a pretty good assumption that the car isnt using it. Could it be the 4t45e like the Grand am 3400 uses?

all W-bodies recieved the 4t65 from 2000 on. The W-Bodies that had the L67 and now the 5.3 v8 get the 4t65-hd. The 4t60-e was discontinued for public sale in 1999. HOWEVER GM continuned fleet sales of the Chevy Lumina untill 2001, these cars were all base models equipped with leftover 3100s and 4t60-e transmissions.

Any Impala 2000 or higher will have the t65.
