I'm a little confusied on what 5 speed gear ratios/FDRs are in a couple of different cars. A 91 Sunbird 2.0 and a 94 Cavalier RS 3.1. I thought they were all the same. Help! Thanks.

RE: Which gear ratios???
Ok, great. Got that one down. Now I just wonder what my lil bird had. They both had the same top gear cruise RPM. I know with different ratios that can be achieved w/o having the same tranny. I just figured GM would use the same tranny. HA! Silly me!Andy

Your bird probably had the 3.58 FDR. As far as I've found I've only ever turned up with 3 different FDR's for the Isuzu MK7/MR3 tranny.
3.58 seem used mostly by J-body cars
3.83 i've found in the Isuzu Stylus
4.10 you'd find in a Geo Storm GSi... not sure what the lower models had.
It's also said that the MJ1 (96-99 2.4L Cav 5spd) used a 3.91, but i'm not real sure about that.97 Cavalier RS

i figure the turbo's use the same at the V6's. it's close enough to the torque of the older 3.1.Andy

dosen't matter what the torque curve is. it the peak that the tranny will see. it's only about 15 ft.lbs.Andy

i was reffering to the gear ratios. if the turbo 4 cyl had the same gearing that the v6 did, it would be an absolute dog till about 3k rpm when the turbo spooled, then would take off like a rocket. it deffinitly doesnt do that, it goes not to bad before it hits boost. and i know his sits about 2800rpm at 100km/h, my v6 sits around 2200.

that's what I don't get. the 94 cav V6 and my 91 2.0 bird cruised at the same RPM. that's why i thought they all had the same thing. -shrug- oh well. it's not that important. like i said, just curiousity. thanks for all your help guys!Andy
