  • Weird idea

I have a strange idea. What about converting a grand am to rwd. My idea uses a 2.4 with a turbo sending power to a rear mounted corvette transaxle. With the rear mounted transaxle you wouldn't have to worry about a tranny tunel and it would good weight distribution.

    RE: Weird idea

AED did it with their pink grand am. I dont really know any specs other than its not that fast last I knew. Its a V8 RWD.

      RE: Weird idea

yea that would be one idea, however the money you spend on it, may aswell do it right and do a full chassis and drop the body on it.

The reason I was thinking of it was you can only put so much power to the front wheels

Yeah, I think its limited to ~1600hp... That's what the FWD 60V6-powered drag car is running.

GM's racing teams run 1100hp 4cyl's on FWD. I believe that's a built up 4t65E, modded to shift manually.

                They USED to run 1100hp 4cyl... now they run a 1600hp V6.

"Extensive research and development continues on the turbocharged Ecotec and the drivetrain applications to take advantage of the global four-cylinder engine's increasing levels of horsepower. But GM Racing engineers have now turned their attention to the Pro RWD category and the development of the new high-feature GM global V-6 VVT (variable valve timing) engine being used this year in Matt Hartford's Summit Racing Chevy Cavalier."

Matt Hartford took over that car after John Lingenfelter crashed and couldnt race it anymore. I know he had the car before John actually died. It's been V6 for quite some time. But alas, is not FWD. And that is now Matt Hartford's car. Not GM's. They may sponsor and work with him, but they dont own it.

Although, i've actually seen that Summit Cav in action. And i'm not gonna argue to it's badassedness. The sound wicked when he gets up and does that burnout. I figure maybe my 3400 would sound like that if I had a turbocharger big enough to fit my head inside.
