I lost my Gear 2 synchro

It went out today, car won't go into gear when i downshift to 2nd without grinding unless I am going less than 15mph, but it will upshift into 2nd if I go slowly. But it will shift fine if I am above 5000 and at least 75% thr

This is a synchro bad, and I am trying to drive using just 1-3-5, but it is hard to go around a 90* right turn in third, but I don't like to slow down a lot in order to get it into 1st.

Can I buy the synchros anywhere? If so, how much and from where?

Call Getrag and then what? They wont do shit unless you send them your entire tranny along with $2800 or so. Looks like you're fucked dude.

Yeah I went to the dealer a few months ago because my reverse synchro took a shit on me (can only shift into reverse while engine's off now). All the parts for the 284 are discontinued, except for a few seals, and the whole tranny itself, US$5000 and $3000 for the core.

I'd say call them and try to get some info and maybe they might sell you the synchros but then u gotta find a way to get someone to replace them. I know through GM parts direct its 1500 for the trans and a 3000 core. But I've heard it's takes a year to get it back to you.

Maybe that's a little overkill...

My car's in the shop right now, getting both axle seals replaced and some interior seal replaced in my tranny, lower engine mount replaced, and possibly clutch depending on condition.

Gotta love early Christmas presents from the parents
