  • Transmission issues

I am having several problems with my Lumina's Auto tranny. It is a 1990 3.1L with the 4 speed 4T60 (TH440T4) before they came out with the E model. I know it is old, but after letting it sit for a couple of months while we finally tracked down a bad ICM (4 months on the new one i had installed) it wants to slip very badly now. When the tranny is cold is seems to go right through the gears properly. As it warms up it wants to go to second too quick and sometimes will shift out of 2nd (especially when you are very light on the gas) and not want to find 3rd and rev the engine in neutral. Once the transmission gets really hot and you have driven it for some time, it won't engage the Lock-up for the torque convertor in 3rd and 4th. Is the first a varnish condition and the second the vaccuum controlled soleniod?

Everyone comment. I am going to get it flushed soon one way or the other, car has about 160k on it, and I live in texas.

    RE: Transmission issues

i wouldnt waste your money on a flush. its not a varnish issue, its a worn out tranny issue. these units are commonly rebuilt 90-120k km, so you have gotten yours has done well.
