  • Shifting prob

I did a hole shot the other day and messed it all up..... Well I messed something up I cant get the car to shift into overdrive. The car is going in to 4th gear but its like the torque converter is not locking up on the highway. I check the fluid and its low and the fluid smells burned. I just changed the fluid 8 months ago. I add fluid but I still cant get it go in to overdrive. I am going to change the fluid agian at my schools shop and get them to flush it. Any thoughts.....

your kind of all over the place here. you say the car wont go into overdrive, but it goes into 4th. 4th gear is overdrive. the torque converter locking is your torque converter clutch.

so what exactly is your car doing. is it shifting 1-2-3-4 but not going into lockup??? or is it going 1-2-3 and shifting 4th, but doesnt actualy engauge in 4th???

no matter what its doing, if your oil is burnt after 8 months, you have internal problems. flushing or changing the oil will not put clutch material back on the clutch plates, replace teeth on gears, ect. you obviosly have something amiss in there and the tranny would have to come apart to fix it.

It is shifting 1 2 3 4 but converter is not locking up in 4th like it is ment to. Do you think I may have bad tcc solenoid?

i doubt it, they are not a common failure like the th125c.

if your oil is burnt and it has a problem, you obviously have an internal problem. im gonna guess the converter clutch is smoked out of it, however now all that clutch material is floating in the oil and may have jammed up valves (if the tcc was starting to go and a peice jammed the lockup valve, may cause it.

id say its gonna have to be pulled out and gone through. there are a couple ways to go here. you can rebuild it, basicly giving you a new transmission. you could also take this opertunity for some performance upgrades, such as a shift kit and high stall converter. if you realy beat on it, red eagle frictions may be an option. if you do go for a rebuild, find a reputable shop to do it. if you choose to remove the tranny yourself, take the car into the shop and have them roadtest it first, it helps a lot if the builder knows the exact problem firsthand.

another option is to buy a used tranny and stuff it in. thing is, you are getting a used part, and it may not be any better than what you have now.
