I have an issue. I just got my "bulid sheet" from pontiac, had to order it and when i got it, it gives the option codes for everything the car has. I have '95 Grand AM SE, has the 4t60e, the build sheet says it has the 2.93 axle in it. I don't see that avaible in the chart we have, i have been told it is a 3.06 too. I have no idea what it is. Can any body help? I want ot know what is cheaper to do, swap out the diff for the gearing change, or just change the drive chain/spockets? This is assueing of course we firgure out what the hell the damn diff is. Thanks for the help!

RE: Gearing on the 4t60e
What is the RPO code for your tranny? And if at all possible, try to find the tag on the tranny. Its a PITA, on the back side, basically where the downpipe comes down. There is a tag there with several letters on it which will identify the tranny much better than the RPO codes will.-Brad-

The rpo code i have for my '95 GA SE is "FR2" which in the little book of knowlege ( as i call it) is a 2.93 axle. I seen it personally, but it does not sy if it is the fianl drive, or just the diff or? Who knows, maybe the book had a few misprints. It has happened before, i sure it can happen again. I'll try to get under'neth in a few days, try to find the tag, then i'll get back to this thread. Thanks for the help.Don\'t hate me because I\'m horny.

Hmm... Wierd thing is, all the RPO listings for 95 vehicles I have don't even have FR2 on them yet. The next year I have above that is 98, where it does show it as a 2.93. So that has me thinking...
Don't take all that we have on here as "all that there is". Most of the info I have put up for the 4T60E is from early 90s GM Tech manuals or information from AllData for 92-95 vehicles. If I could find more up-to-date info, I'd put it up. Maybe one of the tranny techs on here can hook us up.-Brad-

I have a 95 beretta and it had the 2.92. you can get a conversion chain set to get I think it was 3.29 ratio. that was a 33 drive gear and a 37 driven gear. I know pontiac jeff would be able to tell you more about it.95 Beretta Z-26

K, so i have 2.92, 2.93, and the brochue DOES say 2.95. See why Gm sometimes drives me to tears? Then to top it off, PontiacJeff says i have the 3.06, which i thought was only in the GT Grand Am's, Bretta GT's, W-body 3100 with the b4u package. (sigh) Thanks for all your folks, hopefully between all of us, we'll figure out what the hell the diff is in this car, the drave spockets and the FDR. Thanks again.Don\'t hate me because I\'m horny.

With that said...
You can have a 3.06 diff with a 28/27 chain config, resulting in a 2.95 overall FDR.-Brad-
