There is a solenoid that controls this. I unhooked it and the symptoms are gone. Now, will this harm anything to leave it unhooked until i can get it fixed? Also can anyone direct me to a how to so i have a better idea of what i'm getting into. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Yes there is a TCC solenoid. It is on the firewall as far as I know. You shouldn't run without the lockup for too long it heats up the fluid alot more. Granted city driving should not be a problem I would avoid any towing.
Get yourself a diagram.

Since when is the TCC solenoid outside of the tranny? I don't think I have ever seen one that is.

http://www.v6z24.com/howto/tcc that is the instructions for a j-body. your corsica wont be to much different, i think the mount is about the only thing.
the tcc solonoid is inside the tranny on all vehicles with lockup. it is mounted on the valve body. there is no way it could be mounted on the firewall. what i think betterthanyou is reffering to is the older gm vehicles (70s and 80s) use a vaccume switch to controll lockup. power goes through it and when you are at the right engine load it will open and allow power through to the lockup solonoid. they are known for issues.

So i could probably put aside an afternoon for this? The corsica is a daily driver so i'll try to see about freeing up some time this weekend. And yes ibeleive it shuold be exactly the same as a bereta considering the're sister cars.
And BTY that's all right i've gotten good advice from you before on .ORG so you did throw me off a bit with the firewall thing but hey we're all human, eh.[/quote]1985 GMC S-15 2.8L V6 Auto

Yea, gas millage is pretty poor with it unhooked.
The local tranny shop quoted me $250 to change it plus an oil and filter change. However i should be able to this myself for around $100 if i change the fluid. Figured i change the fluid because it's been about two years. Don't want to run it much longer with it unhooked the engine light is begining to get on my nerves and gas prices are ridiculous.1985 GMC S-15 2.8L V6 Auto
